  1. 1980

    Our first hospital unit, Hospital Mater Dei Santo Agostinho, was inaugurated on June 1st, 1980 by our founder, Dr. José Salvador Silva.

  2. 1986

    Our Mastology Unit (Unimater) was established in 1986, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast diseases. Unimater served as a center for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, performing advanced and exclusive procedures in the State of Minas Gerais. Treatments included radioguided surgery (i.e., the evaluation of nonpalpable breast lesions) and sentinel lymph node examinations (a breast cancer diagnosis method). Also in 1986, we established the first pediatric intensive care unit, or PICU, in the State of Minas Gerais, which operates through the support of a multidisciplinary team that provide services across several healthcare disciplines and includes physicians, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists and speech therapists, offering complete medical assistance to patient children.

  3. 1989

    In 1989, we provided fertilization services that resulted in the first child born through in vitro fertilization in the State of Minas Gerais (the third such birth in Brazil). This birth marked a milestone in the human reproduction services we offer and which are currently spearheaded by the Human Reproduction Center at the Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital.

  4. 1992

    In 1992, we created PAEX, which was founded in partnership with the Dom Cabral Foundation, investing in the establishment of a corporate governance structure to manage our leaders and employees.

  5. 1994

    In 1994, we initiated our clinical staff development efforts through the establishment of a direct relationship between our clinical staff and our strategic management.

  6. 1997

    In 1997, we began construction of Block II of the Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital, a 17-story building with modern patient-focused infrastructure that includes a heliport, a day hospital for surgeries of low to medium complexity, inpatient units and an obstetrics center.

  7. 1998

    In 1998, we inaugurated our clinical pathology laboratory, which provides 24-hour service, seven days a week. The quality of our clinical pathology laboratory has been attested by the Brazilian Health Surveillance Authority (Serviço de Vigilância Sanitária) and by the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology (Sociedade Brasileira de Patologia Clínica), which awarded the laboratory a certificate of excellence. Also in 1998, we expanded our clinical staff and our diagnosis, imaging and complementary examination services, which we made available 24-hours per day, and we established our Ethics in Research Committee (Comitê de Ética em Pesquisas), or CEP, which is accredited by the Brazilian National Commission for Ethics in Research (Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa), or CONEP, and is responsible for the approval, evaluation and monitoring of the ethics of our research activities.

  8. 2000

    In 2000, we inaugurated Block II of the Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital as part of our “Mater Dei 2000 – Bigger and Better” (Mater Dei 2000 – Maior e Melhor) initiative, with the commencement of the operations of the unit’s day hospital. We also initiated the unit’s medical protocols and the development of our standardization and quality assurance division.

  9. 2001

    In 2001, we inaugurated a new Birth and Obstetrics Center, in a spacious and more personalized environment. Also in 2001, we were a founding member of the ANAHP, which was formed to foster the exchange of information and the dissemination of best management practices throughout the Brazilian healthcare system.

  10. 2003

    In 2003, we launched the Qualitas Project, which resulted in the elaboration over a two-year period of protocols for the standardization, quality and integration of our operations. In connection with the project’s standardization guidelines, 84 teams prepared 570 medical protocols, 750 nursing care processes, and 1,100 descriptions of administrative activities.

  11. 2004

    In 2004, we were received the Certificate of Excellence Level 3, the highest certification awarded by the ONA. We were the first hospital in the State of Minas Gerais and the second in Brazil to be granted this certification. Also in 2004, we initiated the coordination of studies on breast cancer chemoprevention in Brazil. We also developed a pioneering study in Brazil to track small, non-palpable nodules through the use of the substance technetium, and were invited by international researchers preparing the International Breast Cancer Interventional Study to participate in their research efforts.

  12. 2005

    In 2005, we were again awarded the Certificate of Excellence Level 3 by the ONA, in addition to a tribute from the Minas Gerais State Legislature for our 25 years of service. Also in 2005, we expanded the strategic planning of our clinical staff to include the analysis of service indicators by our senior management, which significantly improved our results and benefited our patients.

  13. 2008

    In 2008, Dr. Henrique Salvador assumed the presidency of the ANAHP. Also in 2008, we obtained ISO 9001/2000 certification through the Dutch Accreditation Council. In addition, we were again awarded the Certificate of Excellence Level 3 by the ONA.

  14. 2009

    In 2009, we received certification from the National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations, or NIAHO, an international certificate first awarded in the United States, and were the first hospital to be granted this certification outside of the United States. Also in 2009, our medical residency was accredited by MEC.

  15. 2010

    In 2010, we expanded our oncology unit, which increased our capacity for chemotherapy patients almost four fold when compared to 2007. We also increased the number of our 4D ultrasound and nuclear medicine equipment consistent with advanced technological and quality standards. In May 2010, we received the Top of Mind award for leadership from the publication Mercado Comum for the fifteenth time, based on a survey conducted by a competitive intelligence company specialized in the areas of branding, consumer profiling, market analysis, services and products.

  16. 2011

    In 2011, we began construction of our Mater Dei Contorno hospital unit comprising 22 floors. In a commitment to best governance practices, we constituted our board of directors and a succession plan was successfully executed within our board of executive directors. In the same year, Dr. Henrique Salvador was appointed our chief executive officer and Dr. Maria Norma and Dr. Márcia Salvador Geo were appointed our vice-presidents.

  17. 2014

    We inaugurated Mater Dei Contorno Hospital in 2014, measuring approximately 69 thousand square meters and comprising 22 floors that include an emergency room, oncology unit, surgical center, ICU, inpatient units and diagnosis facilities, among other facilities. The unit has an installed capacity of 357 hospital beds. Also in 2014, our Santo Agostinho unit again received level III from the ONA, the highest certification awarded by the organization. We also received the Latin American Hand Hygiene Excellence Award and inaugurated our Human Reproduction Center.

  18. 2015

    In 2015, we inaugurated Mais Saúde Mater Dei, an outpatient clinic that provides continuous healthcare examination and monitoring services across several specialties for patients with chronic conditions and for patients receiving highly specialized clinical treatment. In 2015, we inaugurated the Mater Dei Contorno’s Oncology Center, which included the first oncology emergency facility in State of Minas Gerais. Also in 2015, (1) Mater Dei Santo Agostinho became the only Hospital in the city of Belo Horizonte to participate in the Safe Childbirth Project (Projeto Parto Adequado), (2) Mater Dei Santo Agostinho again received ONA III, NIAHO and ISO certifications, (3) Rede Mater Dei de Saúde received the Humane (Ser Humano) Award, (4) our founder and chairman of the board, Dr. José Salvador Silva received the award for Business Personality of the year and (5) our training center, CFI, received an award for human resources management. Moreover, our research article “Diagnosis Match: a New Quality Indicator at Rede Mater Dei de Saúde’s Medical Clinic I” (Correspondência Diagnóstica: Um novo indicador de qualidade da Clínica Médica I da Rede Mater Dei de Saúde) won the 2nd place award at the 3rd CONAHP seminar organized by the ANAHP.

  19. 2016

    In 2016, we inaugurated the Integrated Cancer Hospital at Mater Dei Contorno Hospital, implemented the Mater Dei Diagnostic Medicine program and Mater Dei Contorno Hospital became the first hospital in the State of Minas Gerais to achieve JCI accreditation, an internationally recognized accreditation, making us one of 29 hospitals in Brazil to have achieved this certification. Subsequently, Mater Dei Contorno Hospital became a member of ANAHP, joining Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital, a founding member of ANAHP. Also in 2016, Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital again received ONA III, NIAHO and ISO certification, and we launched our Client Portal, which offers online appointment scheduling and test results. We also established our pediatric heart surgery specialization, expanded our hemodialysis services and were awarded the Consumer Experience Award from Tracksale. Also in 2016, we began to obtain energy from the Brazilian free energy market, facilitating our use of renewable energy and generating cost savings.

  20. 2017

    In 2017, we initiated construction of Mater Dei Betim-Contagem Hospital, expanded Mater Dei Santo Agostinho’s gynecological and obstetric emergency room, inaugurated the admission and monitoring facilities for patients in labor at Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital and expanded Mater Dei Contorno Hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit. Also in 2017, we established our sports medicine specialization and our Metabolic and Bariatric Care program was certified by the Surgical Review Corporation as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Care™.

  21. 2018

    In 2018, we inaugurated the first private liver nodule outpatient clinic in the State of Minas Gerais at the Mater Dei Integrated Cancer Hospital and Dr. Henrique Salvador, our chief executive officer, was named one of the 100 most influential individuals in the Brazilian healthcare sector. Also in 2018, we performed the first fetal surgery in the State of Minas Gerais, the first robotic surgery on a child under five and the first robotic pediatric pyeloplasty. We also received the 2018 Excellence in Healthcare award for nursing.

  22. 2019

    On January 19, 2019, we inaugurated Mater Dei Betim-Contagem Hospital, a 400-bed capacity hospital facility and offering several specialties, including surgery and obstetrics, diagnostic medicine, MRI, tomography, laboratories, inpatient services, ICU, PICU and NICU services and oncology, among others. In the same year, we initiated construction of Mater Dei Salvador Hospital, our first unit outside the State of Minas Gerais, in a strategic location at the intersection of two main avenues in the capital of Bahia. Also in 2019, we launched our corporate health and Mater Dei operator/self-management service offerings. This initiative allowed us to provide our employees a healthcare insurance plan through our network, with monthly fees paid in their entirety by us. The plan focuses on the health and well-being of employees through primary healthcare. We measure our employees’ satisfaction through the net promoter score, or NPS. This service offering scored approximately 90% in the initial months of operation with service availability at 87%.

  23. 2020

    In 2020, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mater Dei Santo Agostinho Hospital and Mater Dei Betim Contagem Hospitals received JCI certification, and we became the only hospital platform to achieve JCI certification for each of our hospital units. We were one of the first entities to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, efficiently adopting several COVID-19 measures and providing support to the Brazilian population. Also in 2020, we (1) won Ser Humano 2020 award from the Brazilian Association of Human Resources in the State of Minas Gerais in recognition of our human resources efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) were recognized as a Great Place to Work and (3) inaugurated our Injury and Hyperbaric Center, which allowed us to expand our service offerings in this specialty.
